Course Information

Course Dates: March 6, 13, 20, 27; April 3, 10 (6 sessions)

Course Time: Sundays 7:00 PM - 8:15 PM ET (in-person)

Course Description

From the Gospels to the letters of Paul, almost every page of the New Testament is packed with references to the Old Testament. Whether in the form of direct quotations or more indirect allusions, the writers of the New Testament tell the story of Jesus and the early church by re-using ideas and images that come from Genesis through Malachi.

Which books and texts are most often cited, and why? Did New Testament writers believe that the Old Testament predicted Jesus? What perspectives or methods guided how the New Testament writers interpreted the Old Testament? What can we today learn from how the New Testament writers reimagined their sacred Scriptures in light of pressing questions facing the early church?

Join us as we explore these and other questions related to the re-use of the Old Testament in the writings of the New Testament.
