Courses in the Community

GDR Student Application Page.

The Candler Foundry invites GDR students in any course of study to apply to teach through the Courses in the Community program during the 2022-2023 academic year.

Part of The Candler Foundry, the Courses in the Community program is designed to make theological education accessible to everyone, including churches/communities in and beyond Atlanta. Courses are 4-6 weeks in length and may be taught in person or online. Covering a wide range of topics, these courses are taught at a seminary-level and place emphasis on how deeper understandings of Scripture, theology, ethics, leadership, and Christian traditions relate to pressing issues facing the church and world today.

A stipend of $1500 will be provided for a 5-week course.

The Candler Foundry provides logistical and technical support for all courses, including the creation of marketing materials, promotions, registration, and providing a tech producer / course assistant if needed. The timing of each course is flexible and will be arranged in consultation with the instructor.

Those interested in applying to teach in the Courses in the Community program should submit the following by May 15, 2022

  • A cover letter that briefly outlines their interest in teaching at the intersection of the church/community and the academy.

  • A current CV

  • A proposal for the course they would like to teach, including a working title and one-paragraph description.

  • The names and contact information for two academic references.
