Notes of Rest: Experiencing Scripture and Black Music in our Restless World

The Candler Foundry

Course Information

Course Dates: October 9- November 6, 2023

Course Time: Mondays, 7:00 PM- 8:15 PM EDT (Online)

Course Description

The Candler Foundry presents Notes of Rest, an exploration of God’s gift of rest through the lens of Scripture and Black music, led by artist-theologian Julian Davis Reid (Candler ’19). This course is for those who find themselves exhausted and yet also love listening to and/or playing Black music. Contrary to the lies of restless modernity, God has created us for rest, and Scripture and Black music invite us into it. Julian has adapted this course from his in-person Notes of Rest experience that he offers at churches and seminaries throughout North America. No technical musical background or theological education is required – just a love of music and a desire to receive Jesus’ gift of rest.
